This woodpecker is one of my favorite things I've ever made. I love the wood and glass together and it was so much fun to make. I used a piece of maple wood from a tree in our yard that was damaged by a storm some time back. The tree had such interesting color and lichens on it that I knew I had to find a way to use it. It is made the woodpecker with a red, charcoal/black and white opal glass. Each piece of glass has been hand cut and ground smooth prior to applying copper foil to all edges and soldering it all together. I added wire legs and finished it with a black patina.
The total height (wood and bird) measures 9 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches wide by 3 1/2 inches deep. The bird alone measures 6 3/4 inches tall by about 3 wide.
My pieces are designed to be used inside.
It would also make a great gift.
