I made the wooden bookends from 5/8 inch thick reclaimed poplar wood, which has been sanded well and stained with a deep brown finish, sealed with a low sheen polyurethane. Each bookend measures 7 3/4 inches tall, 5 3/4 inches wide, and 3 inches deep. The glass it's self overhangs the wood by about 1 inch on the larger bookend and is pretty much even on the smaller.
***The reclaimed wood has a few small nail holes, dents and scars from it's previous life.
The planets are created from several colors of opaque glass with the clear background textured being clear glass. Each piece was individually hand-cut and assembled using the Tiffany method, with copper foil applied to all edges and soldered for durability.
